Bansko is a mountain resort in southwestern Bulgaria, nestled in Mt Vihren’s shadow and enjoys both summer and winter recreational tourism. The town’s population is approximately 10,000 and winter lasts almost six months a year. On the weekend, Bansko is the busiest time with visitors crowding local traditional-style restaurants to listen to folks singing traditional songs. There are several Bansko hotels located in quiet natural settings while other hotels in Bansko are within walking distance of the town’s center. Built in 1835, the Church of the Holy Trinity is the areas largest church with the regions richest mural paintings. Bansko hosts the very popular International Jazz Festivals featuring many famous artists and attracts foreign and local visitors. Using modern technology, the Bansko Museum Complex presents artistic facts and heritage. The museum also has several other exhibitions. Bansko is becoming a very popular ski resort and has Shiligarnika, which is the high altitude ski centre and Chalin Valog, for the low altitude skiers.
